MARIGOT:--- The criminal court in Basse Terre, Guadeloupe, on Friday December 28, sentenced an individual to four years in prison with one year suspended for a violent assault on a tourist that took place in Marigot on December 21.
A press release from the Gendarmerie stated that the attack and attempted robbery occurred on Friday December 21 at around 5:15pm when a tourist couple was shopping on Rue Kennedy in the vicinity of Lipstick.
The press release further explained that while the female tourist was waiting in front of Lipstick for her husband, the woman was approached by the aggressor who attempted to snatch her bag which was slung over her shoulder.
The woman did all she could to resist losing the bag which caused the attacker to become increasingly violent and he proceeded to punch the victim repeatedly. Cowering under the punches, the woman fell to the ground and hit her head on an object on the pavement. While on the ground, the attacker continued to punch the defenseless woman until a Gendarmerie patrol arrived.
The attacker was immediately arrested. The report did not mention the condition of the victim.
