Prime Minister Wescot-Williams Joins in Art Saves Lives and Be The Change Fundraising.

swescotwilliamswithbtcandasl24042013The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams joined fellow minister the Hon. Silveria Jacobs and the Hon. Cornelius De Weever and invited guests at a fundraising event for the Art Saves Lives and the Be the Change Foundations on Tuesday evening. Be The Change's mission is to encourage the St. Maarten community to actively contribute to various non-profit organizations and local causes through the igniting of a social philanthropic movement. The Art Saves Lives Program (ASLP) is a cross-cultural exchange between youth in need and experienced practicing artists who seek to use their talents for positive change. The collaborative project will select renowned artists from around the world who use the arts to introduce participants to global and local traditions and empower them with the life skills necessary to effectively deal with the demands and challenges of everyday life.

The Prime Minister stated in her brief remarks at the event how very proud she was of both Nicole De Weever and Erika Cannegieter of the Art Saves Lives and Be the Change Foundations Respectively. "I am so very proud of Nicole and Erika and I know that Minister Jacobs and Minister de Weever share that sentiment for what you have done in the past and for what you have been doing right now. I told these two ladies when they were in my office recently that I know that they would be able to accomplish what they are aiming for. There simply cannot be this much passion and compassion in two young ladies without something not coming out of it. And so tonight I would like to thank everyone for their support and the motivation for these ladies to do what they have set out to do. To Nicole and Erika I say that I support and encourage you in whichever way. There are so many wonderful persons that do great work representing great foundations that work tirelessly for their causes. So as Prime Minister of St. Maarten I would like to also extend my thanks to those organizations in making St. Maarten a better place. I remain committed to the belief that young people with drive will make a huge difference in the community. One person can make a difference but many people together can be the change," commented Prime Minister Wescot-Williams.
