PHILIPSBURG (DCOMM):--- On Wednesday morning October 30th, 2013, Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Affairs Patricia Lourens-Philip, visited the Sister Borgia Primary School in Philipsburg together with representatives of the National Organizing Committee Royal Visit (NOC), Vice-Chairman Mr. Marcel Gumbs and member of the Secretariat NOC Ms. Emilia Thomas.
The delegation visited the school to present one of the first educational packages 'Royal Visit 2013'. The packages were developed to assist the schools in preparation of the arrival of His Majesty King Willem Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima.
They also brought posters to inform the students of the Royal Visit Art Contest. All students on Sint Maarten, elementary and secondary school, can take part in this contest by creating a creative portrait of the King and Queen and handing it in at their school by November 6th, 2013 before 11:00 a.m.
The students can participate in three categories: Cycle 1, Cycle 2 and Secondary Education. First prize in each category are 2 V.I.P. passes to the Youth Showcase on Wednesday, November 13th. The Youth Showcase is a special event hosted by the Prime Minister for the King and Queen. Approximately 250 children will show their talents that evening under the guidance of the National Institute of Arts (NIA).
The second and third prize winners will receive art surprise packages. The winners will be determined by a panel of judges and contacted on November 7th. The prize giving will take place on Friday, November 8th.
