Traditional Boat Race to be held on St. Maarten Day.

sxmdayboatrace07112013PHILIPSBURG:--- Traditional Sail Boats are getting ready for St. Maarten's Day boat race and barring great weather, will be ready for sailing on Monday morning. Come see how these traditional boats are rigged and sailed. The boats are known as "Traditional", base on their open-hull wood crafted design, manual rigging styles, and are 23 feet in length. There are 14- 15 boats in the "B-Class" boat category, each of them carrying crews of 9 to 11 persons.

The race begins at 1:00 pm in Great Bay Harbor (Taloula Mangos Restaurant) sailing out to the marker at Divi Little Bay point, tacking back to the start and sailing down towards Simpson Bay Airport and back for the finish at Great Bay Beach.

The race will be broadcasted live and for those who are not sailing, there will be great entertainment, food, drinks and beaching. The participants of the boat race are thankful for the support of all the sponsors, especially The Windward Islands Bank, Government of St. Maarten, Caribbean Liquors & Tobacco, Taloula Mangos Restaurant and La Voix FM 101.5).
