BELAIR:--- On November 7, 2013 First Officer Ashnil Sakhrani and Captain Michael Jeffrey represented our National Airline WINAIR at St. Maarten's annual Career & Study Fair held at Belair's Community Center. The fair was held between 7am to 6pm. It was attended by companies and organizations such as the PJIA, Education Department, Customs, Coast Guard, St. Maarten Medical Center, Telcell, Florida Universities and many more. The Fair targeted all high schools on Dutch St. Maarten and the Island of Saba.
The students showed great interest in WINAIR and asked many questions concerning the job opportunities at the airline. During the fair a raffle was held giving students a chance to "Win a day at WINAIR", visiting each department of the airline and flying along with its pilots.
Over 150 students entered the raffle. Four lucky students won this opportunity. They are Juliy He (St. Dominic High) LeQuan Brooks (MPC) Simon Speetjens (MPC) and Danel Lucas (MPC). The raffle was drawn by Ms. Ruthline Rogers-Steba one of the organizers of the Career and Study Fair.
WINAIR's booth at the Study Fair continues to be one of the most popular among the students and WINAIR's dynamic Captain Jeffry confided that each year the airline's Activity Committee looks forward to having our National Airline attend this fair. He echoed Managing Director Michael Cleaver's wish to have the country's Ministry of Education include in their student education financing program, scholarships for careers in the airline industry such as Pilots, Aircraft Mechanics, Aviation Management and other related studies. Each year WINAIR has to recruit pilots from abroad to fill the various vacancies in their aircraft cockpits due to a lack of local pilots in sufficient numbers.
