kingwillemalexanderandqueenmaxima17112013PHILIPSBURG:--- Police officers, the organizing committee and all those that worked on organizing the visit of King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima last week needs a pat on the back for the way they organized the visit of the Royal Couple since the visit was incident free. The Royal Couple visited several public institutions and also walked down Front Street while on St. Maarten.

Their visit to Bonaire was hampered because the residents of that island protested the King's visit. Additionally, on Saturday night a police officer who was escorting the King and Queen got knocked off his motorcycle while escorting the Royal Couple on Curacao. The officer is said to be in serious condition.

Several persons on St. Maarten including police officers said not one person including the Minister of Justice ever thought it fit to compliment them for the job they did during the King and Queen's visit to St. Maarten. Some of them who spoke to SMN News on the condition of anonymity said that politicians and Ministers complained about the traffic situation because they were forced to close certain roads during the King and Queen's visit to St. Maarten.
