PHILIPSBURG:--- The Board of the Windward Islands Teachers Union (WITU) has received numerous inquiries from teachers wondering as to why there is still no information on WHEN Teachers and members of the Non-Teaching Staff employed at the Government Subsidized Schools will receive the payment of their COLA 2011.
While ALL the Teachers and Non-Teaching Staff of Public Education have already received their lump sum payment, information reaching WITU is that the subsidized boards received the calculation on how to pay the COLA from Government quite late.
WITU is still getting the impression that school boards are struggling with how to get these figures together to claim the monies from Government to be able to pay their personnel.
Information from some school boards to their staff on how the calculations have been done have gone out, but not all boards have been keeping their staff informed and updated on a possible payment date.
The WITU, again, strongly feels that this is very unfortunate and unfair to our members employed at the school boards, since this information should have been requested or shared in a timely fashion from Government to school boards and back.
It is a blatant disrespect to our members that information cannot be given to them on what is taking place. Civil servants have been paid, but still teachers working for subsidized school boards continue to wonder when they will be paid what little is to be paid. This is very unfair.
WITU is therefore calling on all school boards to inform and update their staff, and be open with what is going on. Payment must be made! WITU is also monitoring the situation and is in constant contact with the boards so we may continue to inform and update our members.
