Layne win Territory St Maarten speech contest ~ To represent St Maarten in Haiti

sharonterritorywinner020520CUL DE SAC:--- Sharon Layne, Competent Communicator of the Disciples Toastmasters Club, has won the territory St Maarten Toastmasters international speech contest. The contest was held at the St Maarten Academy on Tuesday April 28th and saw two contestants vying for the honor.

Sharon Layne came out ahead of fellow contestant Donovan Smith with her presentation "TMAR – anonymous. Layne, a teacher of English by profession at the St Maarten Academy academic section has been victorious at Club, Area and now territory levels of the contest. She has now earned the right to represent St Maarten at the Toastmasters District 81 International Speech Contest. The contest will be held on Saturday May 16th at the Oasis Hotel in Haiti during the District's May Conference. The winner of the District Speech contest goes on to represent District 81 at the semi-finals of the World Champion of Public Speaking, which is scheduled to be held at Toastmasters World Convention in Las Vegas in August.

"This is a great opportunity for me to represent St. Maarten and I intend to make the island proud" stated Layne; who has been a member at the Disciples Toastmasters Club for the past 2 years and demonstrates very good presentation skills. Toastmasters on St Maarten are confident that she will represent the island well at the speech contest.

There are five Toastmasters clubs on St. Martin, of which three – Disciples, Philipsburg, and Soualiga Corporate – make up Area 26. The other two – Evolutions and Achievers – along with the Anguilla Club, fall under Area 27.
