Innovative Approach to SMMC Patient Satisfaction.

CAYHILL:---- St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) has introduced a new innovative electronic Patient Satisfaction Survey system to provide a valid, reliable and user-friendly system that enables SMMC to improve and accurately measure client experience and satisfaction.
The low cost tool for collecting patient experience and satisfaction information consists of an Android application running on tablet devices managed by the SMMC.
Patients are asked to answer questions about their experience and level of satisfaction with; quality of services, information received and professionalism of staff.
Currently, patients discharged from the Obstetric/Gynecology ward and Medical Surgical ward are given the opportunity to anonymously fill in the survey. Immediately, data is ready for analysis and reporting to doctors and management. The program will be monitored ensuring timely and adequate feedback on the patient experience.
At a later stage, the program will be extended to the emergency, dialysis and outpatient department.
According to Quality and Safety Manager Johan De Koning, “SMMC is implementing this program because we want to learn and improve. What we are trying to achieve with this new survey is to collect reliable data from our patients, systematically, before they leave the hospital. This program will engage our patients and staff and strengthen our quality care system; providing new approaches to access the satisfaction of the people we serve.”
