Gasoline rises 2.6 cents per liter; new maximum prices take effect September 30
PHILIPSBURG:--- Motorists and businesses that rely on diesel will face a sharp fuel cost increase on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. A government notice sets the new maximum consumer price at XCG 3.272 per liter, up from XCG 2.905. That is an increase of 36.7 cents per liter, or about 12.6%.
The maximum price of unleaded gasoline will rise from XCG 3.076 to XCG 3.102 per liter, an increase of 2.6 cents. Both changes take effect at 6:00 a.m.
For a 40-liter purchase, the diesel increase amounts to XCG 14.68 more than at the current price. A 40-liter gasoline purchase will cost XCG 1.04 more.
The government says supplier SOL must restock its fuel and is paying more for gasoline and diesel following developments in the international market. According to the notice, the Department of Economy, Transportation and Telecommunication compared the price changes with international Platts postings before adjusting the maximum prices.
The published price buildup shows a posted fuel cost of XCG 2.397 per liter for diesel, compared with XCG 1.935 for gasoline. It also lists freight, a liquid throughput fee, wholesaler and retailer margins, and turnover tax. Gasoline carries an additional XCG 0.290-per-liter excise tax in the buildup.
The much larger diesel increase could add pressure to transportation and other businesses that use diesel, though the notice does not estimate any effect on fares or consumer prices. It announces changes to the maximum pump prices for gasoline and diesel; it does not announce an adjustment to the electricity fuel clause.
