Junior Calypso singers ready to claim their Carnival spotlight.

juniorcalypsosingers04032013PHILIPSBURG:--- The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation SCDF reminded the general public that its youngest participants need its support as well for Carnival 2013 and assured that the contestants of the Junior Carnival Calypso & Roadmarch Competition are preparing to deliver a high caliber show as they are accustomed of doing.
The Junior Calypso competitions will be held on Sunday April 7, at Celebration Palace along with the Junior Carnival Queen Pageant. The event has always been billed as a family afternoon and that concept remains in place for Carnival 2013. It kicks off at 4:00pm.
"We are very happy with the 6 singers we have in junior calypso this year, they are all 'veterans' so to speak who work hard every year. They are looking forward to the public coming out and supporting them, the future of Carnival," President of the SCDF Mike Granger said.
"But these children won't be classified as juniors forever. We need to encourage more to take up the art form of calypso. We have a plan in place for this and will address it after Carnival," Granger added.
He added that the junior shows always draw families and encouraged parents to embrace the show again this year. The reigning Junior Calypso Queen is Princess Acquilla Carty and the reigning Roadmarch King is Rickyshio Bertie. Both will be defending this year.
