REWARD:--- The students of the St. Dominic High School have spent the last month busy with what they call "The 24-Hour Lesson Marathon" or Lesson-thon for short, which will take place on November 22nd to 23rd. The International Baccalaureate year 1 students have worked with the co-operation of a few teachers to put this event together after the success of the past Lesson-thons. We can say with confidence that this event was organized by the students for the students.
Every student has been given a sponsor card that they have been trying to fill with donations from both businesses and individual sponsors. The purpose of this event is to collect funds to assist the students of IB year 1 in raising money for their mandatory educational, international trip which they will be going on next year.
The students have implemented a house system: red, blue, green, and yellow house. Every student was given a colored sponsor card, in the hopes of raising the most money for their house. A logo competition was held and the winners' prize was a guaranteed spot to partake in this event. Five other students were selected from their respective houses to participate in 24 hours of classes and activities with absolutely no sleep. For the past two weeks, the IB Year 1 students have been conducting mini games during the recess so that each house can gain points and also for each house to get motivated for the upcoming marathon. The Lesson-thon will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Friday morning, where the students will follow normal classes and at 2:30 p.m. the line-up of very exciting activities will begin. Guest teachers and guest presenters have offered their assistance by leading interesting classes that vary from Chemistry, Salsa, Music, Cooking, and many more. The Red Cross and security will be present throughout the event.
The St. Dominic High School hopes to receive co-operation from the community by supporting the IB – Year 1 students, which will aid them in raising funds for their trip. The aim of this trip is to gain experience abroad, learn about other cultures, and conduct research for future assessments.
A special thank you goes out to all businesses and the community who have contributed to this event thus far and for continuing to support and believe in the youth and education at St. Dominic High.
