PHILIPSBURG:---- On Wednesday December 16th 2015 the Gamali Benjamin foundation was officially formalized at the notary office of Tjon Ajong associates on Front Street Phillipsburg. The foundation was immediately formed back in August of this year after the tragic shooting and death of Officer Gamali Benjamin. The foundation was formed in honor and memory of the fallen Officer Benjamin who was very well known and loved in the community. Since then, the foundation members have been working tirelessly to have the articles of incorporation notarized. That eventually became a reality for them on Wednesday making the foundation a legal entity enabling it to carry out its objectives.
The objectives of the foundation is to render assistance of different forms to critically injured men and women in blue during the line of duty. It will also provide therapeutic and rehabilitating assistance to eligible recipients. One of the main goals will be to provide educational assistance to child/ren of the victims. Officer Benjamin’s young son will be one of the first beneficiaries of the foundation who will assist in providing him with a sound education.
The foundation has received the support of some local and foreign businesses through financial assistance enabling them to carry out their functions. In the coming months the foundation have planned activities to help raise awareness and keeping officer Benjamin’s good name alive.The five member board would like to congratulate the office of Tjon Ajong and associates and in particular Mrs. Faride Tjon Ajong and Mrs. Zephanie Fleming for the wonderful and guided assistance they have given to make the foundation a reality.
