PHILIPSBURG:--- The SXM Hospitality Educational Institute-SXMHEI will host its first annual “Security in Hospitality and Tourism Seminar” (SHTS)for key stakeholders in safety and security in Hospitality and Tourism on St. Maarten on Thursday January 28, 2016 at 7.00 p.m. -9.30 pm on safety and security themed;

-Key stakeholders are crucial partners in the process of attracting, taking care and securing our population, visitors and guests in the Hospitality and Tourism sector on St. Maarten.

This seminar is designed to bring together the island’s key stakeholders specializing in safety and security. Its purpose is to share new approaches on how to deal with terrorism and bomb threats.

The outcome of this discussion will give content to suggestions for a general working document of new approaches to meet the challenges of impending threats to the safety and security of the St. Maarten population, its guests and visitors in 2016 and beyond.

Conducting the seminar is Dr. Aaron Westrick, a tenured professor at the School of Criminal Justice, Fire and EMS at the Lake Superior State University in Michigan and a law enforcement professional with over 34 years of experience in crime prevention.
Dr. Westrick will highlight the importance of continuity of security and tourism sectors working closely together. He will also provide an update and bring us in line with the developments as it regards prevention, basic security alertness, surveillance and barriers for the benefit of our people as well as all our guests and he will address, among others, the issues of:-

• Risk
• Threat
• Crime
• Terrorism
• Access control and Exits
