USM welcomes new students.

usmorintation07082018PHILIPSBURG:--- On Monday, 6 August 2018, the University of St. Martin (USM) welcomed a group of 14 new students to its academic programmes in the General Liberal Arts, Business, Hospitality and Education Divisions. Orientation Day, as is traditionally observed by USM weeks before classes begin, is a significant moment where staff, faculty and administrators meet with the new incoming class, introducing students to the ins-and-outs of campus life. The students were the first to commence their academic career after Hurricane Irma hit St. Maarten in September 2017.
This year’s Orientation Day was organised by USM Counselor Leona Nestor-Hubert, Admissions Assistant Micaela Hart and USM Marketing Coordinator Valda Hazel. The Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Rolinda Carter, and USM President Dr. Antonio Carmona Báez met with the group of freshmen and exchanged encouraging words of inspiration. As a small token of welcome with a message of social and environmental consciousness, students received green reusable water cans which were donated to the university by the Nature Foundation. USM aspires to become an eco-friendly campus, joining other St. Maarten institutions in their search to reduce waste.
