CUPECOY:---Residents of St. Maarten who are considering a career in medicine may have the chance of a lifetime, a scholarship to medical school covering the full cost of tuition. Today, American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) is announcing full scholarships, the AUC St. Maarten Partnership Scholarships, available to eligible St. Maarten residents.

“We’re proud to award deserving individuals a tuition-free opportunity to pursue a career as a physician. AUC students gain a unique experience and an excellent education at an international medical school with a truly global focus,” said AUC Executive Dean Heidi Chumley, MD. “Our graduates go onto prestigious careers in medicine and we encourage St. Maarten residents to apply to AUC and join our strong tradition of advancing health care.”

“The Ministry congratulates all the scholarship recipients and look forward to their graduation and subsequently their return to serve the community of St. Maarten. We are pleased to have AUC as a strategic partner in the education of our local students in the medical field,” said Minister of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sport, the Honorable Wycliffe Smith. “I encourage those interested in the field of medicine to make use of this unique opportunity and apply to AUC where I have no doubt that they will receive a solid foundation at a top class medical institution.”

Four current scholarship recipients are set to graduate this academic year: Doran Joseph; Vivian Vu, Kevin R. Simon; and Nilesh Dialani, all of whom are doing their clinical rotations in the United States. Another recipient, Darlene Gumbs, is finishing her 5th semester at AUC.

To qualify for the scholarships, individuals must be residents of St. Maarten and accepted to study at AUC. The academic scholarships cover all tuition costs, so long as the recipients maintain satisfactory grades throughout their enrollment at AUC. The university will send scholarship applications to eligible individuals.
