Rotary Sunset Distributes Hand Sanitizers.

rotarysunsetsanitizers11032020MARIGOT:---  During the recent carnival festivities held on the French side of the island, members of the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset took to the streets of Marigot to distribute free hand sanitizers in recognition of “Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Month”.
Providing clean water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, and Child Health Care are some of Rotary’s key focus areas and Rotary clubs worldwide display their commitment to improve sanitation and promote good hygiene habits among families and particularly children within their communities. It is estimated that 1,400 children die each day from diseases caused by poor sanitation and hygiene practices, diseases that could be prevented by implementing good hygiene habits and improved sanitation.
The month of March is observed as “Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Month” by Rotary clubs worldwide and to commence the month of activities, Rotary Sunset distributed 400 custom made hand sanitizers to spectators during the children’s parade. The hand sanitizers were branded with the club’s logo and were specifically given to children at the parade to promote good hygiene practices.
“With the increase in numerous viral infections as well as the Coronavirus, which has recently grabbed the attention of our local community, the presentation of these sanitizers was indeed timely. It is important that we continue to advocate the importance of good hygiene practices, not only when there is a worldwide epidemic, but on a daily basis. We found it imperative to do our part in contributing to the health and wellbeing of those who are most vulnerable, our children. The focus was not just to give out hand sanitizers but to provide helpful tips on the proper of hand sanitizers and the importance of washing your hands”, Roylyka Roache, Public Relations Chair, stated.
The Rotary Club of St Martin Sunset would like to thank the President of FCDSM Luciana Raspail for granting the club permission to execute the distribution. The club will continue to bring awareness to the importance of good hygiene practices, proper coughing and sneezing etiquette among children and adults in hopes to minimize the spread of germs and bacteria, island-wide.
The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset meets every second and fourth Monday of the month at Carl N Sons Unique Inn and Conference Facilities in Cole Bay at 7:30 pm.
