PHILIPSBURG: --- PHILIPSBURG: --- Ten cases of COVID-19 have been identified on St. Maarten, according to information SMN News received at least 3 of the cases were identified on Thursday. Prior to that CPS was monitoring 3 cases before the repatriation flight which came in on Saturday, July 18th.
SMN News understands that at least four persons tested positive from the Rouge et Noir Casino during this week while there was one positive case and one inconclusive case identified on Sunday from the repatriation flight that came in on July 18th. At the moment, there is no one hospitalized at the St. Maarten Medical Center while all identified cases are being confined at their homes.
Minister of Public Health Richard Panneflek said he could not confirm exactly how many cases were identified at today Thursday, the Minister of Health promised to get the data and provide it to SMN News later this evening.
St. Maarten is expected to reopen to the American borders on August 1st and already it appears as though the island is hit by the second wave of the COVID-19.
While many persons including government officials are placing focus on when the ports of St. Maarten will reopen to American destinations, SMN News has been reliably informed that Americans that are either working or living on St. Maarten have been coming through other ports and cross over to the Dutch side of the island. Sources say these persons are traveling from San Juan then to St. Barthelemy and then to St. Maarten.
