PHILIPSBURG:---Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Rodolphe Samuel announced on Wednesday during the Council of Ministers press briefing that due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Annual Sport & Creative Industries Open House, will be presented as a virtual online event, via the Facebook pages of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, the Department of Sports and the Department of Culture, on September 14th, 2020 at 10 am.
The main objective of this year’s virtual Open House is to stimulate and educate the community on the importance of how Sports and Culture can potentially play a positive role in their lives. The video presentations that have been created, demonstrate, promote, and encourage persons to become active and join an organization that may best fit their interests and goals in life.
On August 31, 2020, all school boards and parents of students of St. Maarten were informed via a letter from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport regarding the current state of affairs as it pertains to Education Continuity with COVID-19. The most recent statistics as per August 30th were shared along with the way forward in education.
According epidemiological scenarios of WHO, St. Maarten is currently experiencing community transmission. Due to this development, a decision has been made to advise schools to continue with an online learning approach to Education Continuity until further notice. The local situation regarding the spread of COVID-19 and the situation on the island will be assessed again within the next four weeks and school boards will be updated accordingly.
In the interim, schools are reminded to maintain the highest level of vigilance and ensure that health and safety protocols for the workplace are strictly enforced and adhered to, in order to safeguard all persons making use of the campus to facilitate the delivery of education.
