MULLET BAY:--- Yannick Cazemajou, Anne Marie Bouillé, Gitte Poulsen, and Frank Jespersen took top honors during the Fundraising Junior Golf Tournament held over the past weekend at the Mullet Bay Golf Course. This event organized by Howard Hobgood and helped by the St. Maarten Golf Association (SMGA) drew invited 10 teams of 4 golfers to the course for an exciting day.
On a well-kept golf course benefitting from the precipitation of the past months, the 10 teams fought a very close and competitive battle. Between the winners and team that came in last, was only 8 strokes difference.
Eventually, the team of Yannick Cazemajou, Anne Marie Bouillé, Gitte Poulsen, and Frank Jespersen shot a stunning 59 stroke net score. Runner up’s were Steve Oostrom, Susan Cohen, Danny, and Marylou Nipper with a score of 61 net. Third place was won by the team comprised of Lal Bahrani, Clarence Derby, Richard Crompton, and Tom Grato securing 61 net scores as well but becoming third because of a lower average and weighted handicap.
Afterward a BBQ was served to all participants, courtesy of Howard Hobgood and much enjoyed by all. Proceeds of the tournament will benefit the youth golf program on the island which is accessible to children through school sign-ups.
A raffle and auction were held in order to raise funds and the organization thanked all the numerous sponsors for their generous donations.
In the coming months, the SMGA will continue to organize tournaments in a responsible manner with respect to the current pandemic and contribute to youth sports in general.
