PHILIPSBURG:--- The members of the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset celebrated an auspicious moment as they held their 2021-2022 Board Installation Ceremony at the Melange Grill on June 19th, 2021. Distinguished guests, such as the 2021-2022 District Governor, Mr. Louis Wever, and his wife Rotarian Amanda Wever, President James Ferris of the Rotary Club of St. Maarten, and well-wishers gathered at the restaurant to share and engage in fellowship. The evening was filled with various activities while celebrants and invitees were delighted with a delectable 3-course selection for the dinner buffet. Zillah Hazel-Duzon dominated the crowd with a beautiful rendition of the St. Martin Song and Mistress of Ceremonies, Ife Badejo, who kept the crowd enthused throughout the entire event.
During her reflective speech, outgoing President, Elisia Lake, expressed how pleased she was with the outcome of the year, despite the challenges faced due to the pandemic. She also applauded the members of the club for their determination in carrying out Rotary International’s motto, “Service Above Self.” Following this acknowledgment, she particularly highlighted members who displayed outstanding commitment throughout the Rotary year with the President’s Awards in areas that included Fellowship, Rising Star, Service Above Self, Spirit of Service, Board member of the year, Rookie of the year and Rotarian of the year. The recipients respectively were Rotarians Franklyn Salomons, Jason James, Marilyn Clark-Waterfort, Jesse James, Jade Maccow, Lucrecia Lake, and Lionel Lawrence.
District Governor Wever proudly installed Rotarian Norrisa Anatol as the club’s president for the new Rotary year while Anatol installed the incoming board for the Rotary year 2021-2022. With excitement, President Anatol delivered an inspirational message to all attendees and reminded the members of their humanitarian duties as members of this prestigious organization.

The club also awarded 17 members of the club with a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF). Continuing the legacy of Rotary’s founder, the Paul Harris Fellow program recognizes individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
The recipients respectively were Rotarians Antoine Flanders, Patrice Gumbs Jr., Shemaiah Fleming, Jade Maccow, Lionel Lawrence, Ahisha Nunes, Marilyn Clark-Waterfort, Franjesca Bulbaai, Alex Pierre, Alia Mathew-Young, Kenrick Housen, Jesse James, Jason James, Courtney Yankey-Wilson, Kimberley Duzong, Franklyn Salomons and Januaira Leonard. Rotarian Magdiona Dyer-Gumbs was pinned a Paul Harris +1 and Rotarian Stuart Johnson was pinned a Paul Harris +2 for their contribution of more than $2,000 to the Rotary Foundation.
The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset meets on the second and fourth Monday of the month at Carl N Sons Unique Inn and Conference Facilities in Cole Bay at 7:30pm.
