~ A man that has dedicated his life to the service of his people.~
MARIGOT:--- Well-known local doctor Dr. Michel Petit who is also a well-established businessman has joined the ranks of politics for the love of his country and island. The announcement was made on Thursday in a press release where a number of hardcore politicians came together and join forces in order the save St. Martin from its current trend.
Two former presidents of the Collectivity of St. Martin are also on the new political party, that was made known today Thursday, July 16th, 2021.
The new political party R.S.M. (Rassemblement Saint Martinois), has a number of persons that are no stranger to politics. However, Dr. Petit who has joined the political arena for the first time is one of the founding members even though it is the first time he has placed his name on a political party that will contest any local elections. While this is the first time Dr. Petit has chosen to enter local politics, he is no stranger to politics since his late father Dr. Hubert Petit was the mayor of St. Martin for several years. Dr. Petit is also very much up to date with the day-to-day affairs on St. Martin and has expressed his discontentment with how the island affairs are being managed.
The founding members of the new political party R.S.M are:
Alain RICHARDSON (Chartered accountant, Former President of the COM)
• Frantz Gumbs (Retired Principal, Former President of the COM)
• Johan TAGE (Business manager)
• Julien GUMBS (Company manager, President of CESC)
• Georges GUMBS (Company manager, Former President of CESC)
• Louis MUSSINGTON (School teacher, elected representatives of the opposition)
• Michel PETIT (Doctor of medicine)
The press release states that out of the love for their island and the choice of the current governing majority along with the dysfunctions, shortcoming in the programming of public contracts is only some of the terms that highlight the mediocrity of the governance of the Territorial Collectivity of St. Martin that has exposed its poor record.
The management post-Irma period and the pandemic are only indicative of a haphazard administration of the country's affairs.
While Saint-Martin is in need, for lack of presentation of complete projects tied up by the Collectivity, funding of several tens of millions of euros is not and cannot be mobilized.
Despite an ambitious post-cyclone IRMA recovery policy by the government, the Collectivity has failed to materialize its efforts and take advantage of public procurement to make it the engine of the economic recovery. An essential boost for the confidence and development of the territory in response to the massive increase in the unemployment rate.
Obviously, the legal framework of the community and its tools are not mastered by our elected officials, leaving room for risky day-to-day management without direction! Although it falls under the competence of the State, the establishment of the new PPRN requires greater involvement of the Collectivity!
Studies are certainly necessary upstream of any major project, but we have the feeling that we are constantly in the study phases without seeing the results or reports, thus serving above all to satisfy consulting firms. "Demagoguery" is certainly the President’s favorite word when he is in trouble, but what about his repeated, clumsy, and barely disguised calls for the insurgency, always seeking to clear their way; irresponsibility is at its height here!
This analysis has led women and men who are volunteers, conscientious, experienced in the management of public and private affairs, to formulate a common objective: To present a list of candidates for the upcoming elections of March 2022 and to take back control for a disinterested, harmonious development. in the interest of the Saint-Martinois collective.
United in action, we will endeavor to implement a program that rules out autocratic or oligarchic governance and to privilege the resources of an experienced team in action, working collegially. This team is made up, among others, of personalities from civil society, former presidents of the Collectivity, and elected officials.
Convinced that through our approach, our knowledge, and know-how, we will regain the attention and confidence of our main partner, which is the State. Partner with whom we will have a number of cases to deal with including, among others, a necessary evolution of the organic law, thus working for a more efficient regulatory tool, at the service of a territory endowed with autonomy, allowing it to free its economic potential for the benefit of all.
Our communication campaign has only just begun, our media presence will be increased in the coming weeks in order to gradually deliver our social project to you with a view to everyone's membership.
