WE CONTROL THE GOVERNMENT.

With great interest we have been watching and listening to the many comments being made to the "Bada Bing Tape" and the ORCA investigation. Without judging the players (willingly or unwillingly) in this scandal, we can come to a simple conclusion: there is no faith in our government.

How is it that so many reactions from residents of Sint Maarten are displaying anger, frustration, helplessness and shame, but so few reactions display any kind of surprise? Besides the alleged wrong-doings, these reactions tell us a lot about the state our country finds itself in and thus lead to the conclusion that there is a total lack of trust and faith by the majority of the people of Sint Maarten in their government.

Of course, whatever scenario thinkable in this scandal is the true one, none of them is pretty. This does not take away that if this scandal didn't come to light or this scandal turns out to be the less severe one that there isn't a bigger problem. A cesspool of issues has been opened and can only be closed by dealing with these same issues. Vague public statements, not taking firm stands on issues, hardly addressing legislation or amendments thereon, not doing firm research, photo-ops for popularity, not going to the people etc should from now on be things from the past.

If we demand the above mentioned no longer to continue then it is our role as WE, THE PEOPLE to make it happen. Soualiga Social Movement stands for awareness, inclusion and participation. We encourage everybody to be involved within their community, be it island wide or just in the road you are living in. We can no longer demand anything from our government if we don't interact with one and another and know of the things that we need done that cannot be done by ourselves or with the help of or our neighbors.

So, in closing we would like to say that WE, THE PEOPLE should unite as one and let ourselves be heard and not only around election time, but that we actively play a role in our society all year around. WE, THE PEOPLE can then demand from government to come with solutions, provide assistance, introduce/amend legislation on issues that WE, THE PEOPLE find important and have our priority. If this scandal is causing this change of how we deal with government then this scandal might be the best thing that happened to us in a long time. #sxmmovement.
