Things that is going on in our country that is completely not right how the contractors is making some of us believe and make you trust them by doing construction work on your houses. This is a story of being a victim of one. Before I even start doing repairs on our house this contractor, he will pass by the house and check all that needs to be done, is more like inspect all over. He is very good in make you believe and trust in him by making our house, and our dream house that we always want. This particular contractor by the name Delbut Wigley, he goes by the name Danny. The company is DBA Lamai construction. In the beginning he seems a very understand and know exactly the work he was about to start plus know the conditions of our house. He promise me from day one what all he was doing to do and make my simple house to my dream house. I know everyone that bought a house will always want to have their own dream house from inside and out, with no question asks. Maybe I can be wrong but it happens.
The time when we found out by the bank that our loan was approving, we were so happy that we can start now with the repairs. I personally call Danny that we can start now with the construction work.
The first payment we start making with Danny, we sign an agreement between us so every payment he will present we the receipts. That will be done every time he receives the cash for the materials and labor. Everything was going as plan; he told us that the house is going to finish in 2 months. But now when ask for receipts that he bought materials and labor, he beginning to say he will put them together for me and it will be easy when we do our taxes. Another day ask him where the receipts, again no receipts. Now another day he give us another answer over the receipts, his accountant will put them together for him so he can give it to us because some companies make the receipts in his name. He will correct and still nothing. So this was going on over and over in the months. When we finally receive it, we still miss receipts to come to the total he receives from us. Till this day he still have some receipts with his name and don't want to go by the companies and get it change to the owner of the house ( us ). And till now is a big balance of the amount that he receives with the agreement form he sign between us.
All repairs that need to be done inside and out the house, plus by clean the yard, paint the house from inside and out. The first few days in the month, things was looking good on our point of feud.
Every day we make contact with Danny to know how things are going with our house, his words are we on track and the house will be done in time. Now we are going in our second month, which means we getting close to be going back in our house. During the days it's going and don't forget while our house is under construction work, we had to rent an apartment for those 2 months. So is more money that is going out instead of only invested on repairing our house. When the days were getting closer to move back home. We told Danny the days are coming closer to move back and is the house going to be finish now. He turn around and say no because is now we going to pour the concrete, imagine in the same week that we were preparing to move back home plus we had an agreement with the landlord for the 2 months stay. During those months the landlord had told us there is another family that is interested in the same apartment when we leaving. Now we were hoping that the other family is not moving in just after when we had to move out.
When ask the landlord for an extra month because our house is not ready to move in. There answers were no problem because the family would move in over 4 months. We thank god so much for seeing the situation that we would have been without a roof over our head because Danny just waist our days and months for nothing. For our surprise in the 3 months the public work show up at the house and notice things that Danny did with the house was not right, they said if he don't re-enforce the wall and made the roof more saver then we can't move back or the concrete roof needs to come off. And they say the contractors know exactly what needs to be done, because that's their income of work and he knows better. We couldn't believe how he (Danny) can mess up our house that maybe we can never do more in the future because of what he did. The 3 months is up and we move back home for our surprise the house is not finish. A lot of things need to be finish before move in; just like he promises us a dream house and it turn out to be a nightmare. Another thing that hit us hard he had 3 or 4 guys helping him for the months, then come down to 2 or 1 guy working with him. It turns out now him own them for their labor work when he told me more of the cash gone for labor then materials. Still I can't understand how he can say more have been pay to the guys (labor) and till this day 2 of the guys is looking for him for the rest of their money. A day the 2 guys decide they want to put down because they not were getting paid and we couldn't believe they would have done that to us. The house is not finish, yard is not clean up plus the house is not paint, as the agreement was with the bank and Danny. We had to find away to pay another person to help us clean up the yard and the rest of things that needs to be done around, when Danny already receive the amount for materials/labor/clean up/paint. This is a nightmare.
When everything was agree and sign between us, the bank and Danny. It comes down that the bank will collect whatever amount you receive from them, with no question ask. That's their policy when you sign for a loan. But the problem that the contractors do to our house is between us and the contractor, that's always the answer from the bank, they will leave you go and deal with those kind a problem. This is the a big problem for us, this Danny still own us the big different of the amount he receive for the work plus no extra help from the other guys that he had with him from beginning, he also own them for that same amount he receive from us.
This is our story and we don't want this to happen to anyone else that make him or any other contractor begin any construction work. It's not fair how these contractors make us believe in their kind of work and with a terrible result. Most important don't take any make up stories. I am sending this message to look out for these kind that call them self contractors and it turn out to be fraud.
