I am a firm believer that man is a sovereign individual, and is therefore the only one who is capable of deciding what is ultimately best for him. The left does not accept that fundamental truth. The left-wingers of the world encroach on private enterprise and property, push for dictatorial rule and demonise personal success. For them, space for free thinking, self-reliance, personal responsibility and independent individualism must not be tolerated.
For decades now, our political leaders have been exploiting their own people for political power and financial gain. They empower themselves by making the civil service the biggest employer, while choking and over-regulating private enterprise, which is the source of all income.
They have set up a school system which does not teach children how to think, but what to think, and then call this "brain-washing" education. Most students who go overseas to finish their studies come back with PhDs and Dr degrees, but are not smart enough to start and run their own businesses but must work for government as civil servants, to become the privileged elitist members of society and dictate to the real business people how to run their businesses.
The Caribbean Development Bank recently gave a lecture on St. Maarten concerning development and economic growth for small nation countries in the Caribbean. The four main points of the lecture were (1) Crime: St. Maarten and Caribbean countries must deal with crime in a serious and firm manner. (2) Labour laws must be flexible and liberalized. (3) Business licences and all permits should be an easy and rapid process and (4) Taxes should be reasonable and low to attract investment. I can hear them now. No one is going to tell us what to do, but they will go along with outside forces to take away and restrict our personal freedoms.
Yep, in my opinion, we are on the same path to economic destruction; it's all about me; to heck with the people. I'm sincerely hoping that I'm wrong, but we shall see. I suggest that everyone get hold of the book Sovereignty or Submission by Dr. John Fonte. Mr. GĂ©rard M. Hunt wrote a little about it on the opinion page of the daily Herald newspaper on May 2nd, 2012.
