The Education Minister said there are monies available at USONA for students who would like to further their studies. Minister Jacobs further explained that unlike the requirements to obtain study financing, the applicant does not have to be a Dutch citizen, those interested in obtaining the funds just have to prove that they have been residing on the island for five or more years.
Students that already applied for study financing and were denied only have to fill up one form while the Ministry of Education has to fill up the other. Students that have never applied for study financing would have to complete the entire procedure. The Minister said there are monies available for about 18 students, the same amount that was denied by the government of St. Maarten.
