Marigot:--- The Gendarmes are calling on eyewitnesses to come forward and provide them with information as they investigate the death of homeless man who was attacked on New Year's Day on Rue de Anguilla. According to a press release from the Gendarmerie, a homeless couple was attacked around 5pm.
The couple was attacked by two youths in a passage way not far away from the Anguilla port. The 51 year old unidentified male victim was evacuated to Martinique for further treatment since he received severe injuries to his head. Despite the medical efforts, the man died of his injuries.
Persons that have information on the attack are asked to call 0590 52 30 12.
It is also reported that the female that was with the man at the time of the attack was raped by the two attackers. The woman did not suffer other major injuries. News reports state that the couple was sleeping on the roadsides in Marigot because Le Manteau de Saint Martin did not have any available beds at the time. It is also reported that the woman received some assistance from the Red Cross who later sent her back to her relatives in St. Barths.
