Philipsburg:--- The prosecution asked the Court of First Instance on Tuesday to grant them another postponement for the pro-forma hearing of the Kings (OCEAN) murder trial. The three suspects who already confessed their involvement to police, appeared in court on Tuesday for their first Pro-forma hearing. Their first pro-forma hearing was initially scheduled for Thursday January 10th, 2013 but the suspects did not attend because the prosecution served them with their summons late. However, the prosecution managed to repair the damage that very evening which led to Tuesday's trial.
According to information provided to SMN News, the prosecution is waiting for the reports from the Mental Health Foundation. The Prosecution has asked for psychiatric and psychological reports on each suspect which is not yet complete. During this time the Prosecution will also conduct the reconstruction of the crime scene to determine the role of each of the suspects. In custody for the brutal murder of Micheal and Thelma King is Meyshane Kemar Johnson, a national of Jamaica who was residing and working on the island illegally. Johnson confessed to police that he was involved in the brutal slayings of the Kings and the robbery of Happy Star Chinese Restaurant. Happy Star Chinese Restaurant was robbed on September 19th, 2012. Police managed to shoot at the vehicle the suspects used to escape from the scene. Inside that vehicle police recovered the cellular phone and credit cards that belonged to the Kings but their bodies were discovered later on September 21st, 2012 by one of their close friends and business partner.
The second suspect is Johnson's first cousin who is no stranger to law enforcement, Jeremiah Chevon Mills (17) is a former student of the St. Maarten Academy (PSVE). Mills is a Dutch national, he was born on St. Maarten to Jamaican parents. SMN News learnt that Mills was a troubled and rebellious youth while attending high school. He was expelled for beating someone with a baseball bat. At the time of his arrest for the murder of the Kings, Mills was on probation for the first crime he committed. He is represented by Attorney at Law Shaira Bommel.
The third suspect identified as Jamal Jefferson Woolford (20) was arrested in St. Thomas by the FBI when he fled from St. Maarten. Woolford is a close friend of Mills who grew up in the Cape Bay neighborhood. At the time of the murders and robbery, Woolford was an employee of Eagle Tours which is located at Bobby's Marina.
The official trial of the case is now set for April 9th, 2013 while the judge is expected to finalize the case and pronounce a decision on May 8th, 2013.
The Ocean investigation known as the Kings murder investigation is the first case the detectives of KPSM solved within a short period of time by themselves. This case placed St. Maarten on the map mostly in North America (USA) in a negative light when the two American citizens were found brutally murdered in their Cupe Coy condominium.
