St. Dominic High Student Government wins big at USGF Interscholastic Games.

sdhwinsusgfinterscholasticgames28012013SOUTH REWARD:--- St. Dominic High School Student Council on Thursday last emerged champions of the fifth annual Interscholastic Board Games Competition hosted by the United Student Government Front (USGF).
Close to 50 students from a number of high schools on the south side of the island converged at Milton Peters College to exhibit their skills at chess, checkers, and dominoes. There were individual winners in each category, as well, but it was the blue and green clad scholars who racked up the most points to walk away with the trophy donated by Personalized Creations. Host school, MPC copped second place, while St. Maarten Academy's academic campus came in at third place.
In the game of chess, Isaiah Escallier of St. Dominic High took the lead, beating out rivals Ryan Fong of Milton Peters College, and John Joseph of Sundial School, who placed second and third, respectively.
Wilfred Dunker and Arion St. Clair of St. Maarten Academy's academic campus slammed their way into first place in dominoes, leaving Andrew Peterson and Joseph Toussaint of St. Dominic High; and Alvin Martin and Maribel Fleming from Milton Peters College to settle for second and third places, respectively.
But MPC rebounded in the game of checkers when they sent up Melissa Cloose who secured the top spot over Anthony Rogers of St. Dominic High and Malik Deacon St. Maarten Academy PSVE.
All categories of winners were able to go home with prizes donated by KFC, Pizza Hut, Domino's Pizza, Family Book Store, Carousel, Vandorp, Shipwreck Shops, and Computer World. Annual sponsor for the event, BIMACO, ensured that all participants had snacks throughout the afternoon.
Three lucky students were also the recipients of three raffle draws, earning them a two-piece KFC dinner, a $10 Carousel voucher, and a book from Family Book Store. USGF was extremely grateful to this year's sponsors, especially Personalized Creations, since this was the first year a trophy was up for grabs.
