Philipsburg:--- Minister of Finance Roland Tuitt announced on Wednesday at the Council of Ministers' weekly press briefing that vehicle owners have until February 28th, 2013 to pay their annual road tax for the year 2013. Tuitt said that the new date is stipulated in the legislation that is currently being worked on.
Minister Tuitt made clear that while several persons have been asking questions regarding the changes made to the road tax payment, no significant changes were made to the process. Vehicle owners will save Naf. 12.50 since they no longer have to pay for a new number plate. Tuitt said that his government whose slogan is "Working for the People" have saved vehicle owners Naf. 12.50 on their road tax payment each year, monies which they could use to buy sandwiches.
Minister Tuitt further explained that the only thing that was done is that the payment procedures have been simplified and government will apply more stringent and stricter measures to ensure that the road tax payments are made before the deadline. The Finance Minister said the legislation for the payment procedure will soon be finalized. Tuitt said just two days ago he received the advice from the Advisory Council who made quite a few comments in relation to the changes in the legislation. He said right now his Ministry along with his legal advisors are busy looking at the comments made by the Advisory Council to see if they need to adapt anything else prior to sending it to Parliament.
