GREAT BAY (DCOMM):--- Lucy Richardson, Head of the Department of Economic Affairs, Transportation & Telecommunication and Leona Romeo-Marlin, Head of the Civil Registry, last week successfully completed the European Seminar on "Risk Management in the Public Sector".
The seminar took place in Berlin, Germany at the European Academy for Taxes, Economics and Law. The seminar was paid for by the Government of Sint Maarten.
The use of risk management tools and correctly balancing risk and control enables public authorities to make better decisions based on calculated risks, and increases the focus on accountability.
It supports the execution of the institution's responsibilities and the achievement of its strategic objectives and thus leads to a more effective and efficient control and audit function without an unnecessary and disproportional increase of bureaucracy.
It creates a real added value for the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the work of public institutions.
Participants included, Parliamentarians from Finland, Auditors, Public Sector Workers and Public Sector Managers from Russia, Portugal, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Estonia, United Kingdom, the European Union (EU) Court of Auditors and Sint Maarten.
