Philipsburg:--- A 49 year old woman died in an early morning road accident on L.B. Scot Road. The accident occurred in the vicinity of John Cooper Lake Baseball Park and Cake House Bakery. Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson said in a police report issued on Friday that the accident occurred around 1:00am early Friday morning. Henson said the victim was struck by a car and she sustained serious injuries causing her death. Upon receiving information on the accident, Henson said several police patrols, including the traffic and ambulance department reported to the scene where they found the victim who was not showing any signs of life.
The victim has been identified as Margarita Rosario Contreras who was born in the Dominican Republic, she was 49 years old. Preliminary investigations show that the victim attempted to cross the street to enter her vehicle which was parked on the other side of the road when she was struck by a white Daihatsu Sirion with license plate P-9042. The force of the impact caused the death of the victim almost instantly.
The body of the victim was confiscated for further investigation and the driver of the car was taken in for questioning. The traffic department is still conducting their investigation into this case to determine the exact cause of the accident. Henson said the driver is being questioned by Police and so far he is cooperating with the investigators. However, eyewitnesses to the deadly accident said the driver was driving at very high speed.
SMN News learnt that the victim Margarita Rosario Contreras was living at Cinnamon Drive Cul de Sac and she was leaving some friends at the time to go home.
