~ Six night spots in build up to Carnival ~
PHILIPSBURG:--- The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation and the main sponsor of Carnival 2013, TelEm Group of Companies/TelCell, will kick off their "Road to Carnival" series of club parties this Friday, March 8 at the Soggy Dollar Bar.
As part of its marketing plan for Carnival 2013 and with the intention to build the hype for Carnival, the SCDF and TelEm will be hosting six club parties over the next few weeks that will be Carnival themed with several Carnival aspects to the nights.
Following the initial party at Soggy Dollar, the next Road To Carnival (RTC) party will be at Bliss Night Club on March 15, the April 6 at Tantra as part of the popular "First Saturdays Affairs" and April 17 for Tantra's Ladies Night. There are two other RTC parties in the planning, one slated for the Great Bay Beach Promenade (Boardwalk) and another which is actually scheduled for off island. Details will be released soon.
TelCell, as the sponsor for the events, will be giving away phones, credit and many more gifts and coupons all night long. S an added bonus and since the events are Carnival related, anyone who wears a carnival mask or headpiece to the clubs will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a Carnival VIP pass.
The TelEm Group has jumped on board with Carnival this year in a significant way and saw its involvement in the build-up to official festivities as important. The company is adamant about getting everyone ready for Carnival 2013 where it is expected that it will have a strong "red" presence.
According to the SCDF, one of the weaknesses of Carnival over the years is the build-up, something the current board intends to change over the next few years starting now with RTC. "Carnival is our country's largest calendar event and we wanted to give it a build-up of steam, we wanted to increase the already high anticipation for Carnival 2013, RTC is our first step in doing this," President of the SCDF Mike Granger said.
"This is also in keeping with our mission to transform Carnival into a 'community of interest' where everyone from all sectors are involved in promoting and participating in Carnival so that we truly begin to elevate our festival. It doesn't hurt that St. Maarten is the party capital of the Caribbean so we're excited about these parties," Granger said.
Club goers could expect appearances by costumed revelers, pageant contestants, some SCDF giveaways and more for the RTC events.
