williammarlin13032013Philipsburg:--- Deputy Prime Minister William Marlin who is also the Minister of VROMI will be climbing on the roof of the Philipsburg Jubilee Library at the end of this week to install the final solar panel and to switch on the panels that will provide solar electricity to the institution. Marlin told reporters on Wednesday at the Council of Ministers' weekly press briefing that the monies the library will be saving in the coming months they will be allowed to keep to finalize the project by installing LED lights and inverter air conditioners that will be using less electricity.

Marlin said it is expected that the electricity bill will be decreased by one third the first month. He said when the entire project is completed then the Philipburg Jubilee Library will only have to pay a few dollars to GEBE for electricity.

Marlin said his Ministry is also busy installing solar panels on public schools while he is in discussion with the private schools in order to reduce the cost of the electricity these schools will use. The idea is to promote the use of green energy.

More homes to be hooked up to Sewage Plant --- Plant currently using 10% of its capacity --- Marlin.

The Minister of VROMI also announced that his Ministry is currently working on installing the main sewage pipes on the west side of Philipsburg so that more homes can be hooked up to the state of the art sewage plant on A.T. Illidge Road. Marlin said right now the sewage plant is only using 10% of its capacity and therefore it cannot function optimally. The project is expected to cost Naf. 160,000.00 which government intends to use from the capital loan of the budget. Other areas that will be hooked up are the St. Peters and Middle Region areas where the main pipes are already in place.

Marlin also said that this week he is expected to take a decision on the way forward with the waste to energy plant. He said the advice has been completed and he has to decide on the four or five proposals that were submitted to him.

He further stated that the company that gets the project will then have to enter into a power purchase agreement with GEBE.
