Cole Bay:--- On Friday, March 22nd, stakeholders involved in St. Maarten's national HIV/AIDS response completed a 3-day training workshop on Results-based Management (RBM) at Carl's Unique Inna & Conference Facilities. The training was organized by the HIV/AIDS Programme Management Team in light of the EU funded project "Strengthening the Integration of British and Dutch OCTs in the Regional Response to HIV/AIDS through PANCAP".
Participants included personnel from the Department of Education and Youth Affairs, Department of Statistics, Department of Economic Affairs, Department of Social Development, Department of Labour and Labour Affairs, Finance Department, Department of Community Development, Interior Affairs and Kingdom Relations, the Police Korps, the Victorious Living Foundation, St. Maarten's Youth Council, and the St. Maarten Housing Development Foundation.
The training introduced RBM theory and followed up with practical assignments in which the participants played different roles in various scenarios in order to acquire a practical understanding of how RBM can be incorporated into their daily work and behavior. Mr. Pyt D. Lucas, course instructor and consultant at For A Change N.V., explained RBM as a management strategy that focuses on 'results' rather than 'activities'. RBM helps organizations to better articulate their vision and support for expected results and to better monitor progress and impact that a given programme or project is having on the local population.
Attendees found the information very useful and have already began using the new information throughout their daily work. At the end of the training, everyone was enthused about their newly acquired knowledge.
