PHILIPSBURG:--- As part of the efforts to upgrade and improve the professionalism of the Police Department in dealing with situations concerning "Relational and Domestic Violence", a request by the Police Management was made to the Peridot Foundation to have a lecture given to all its workers concerning this issue. Seeing the necessity to have this lecture given to the Police Department which is confronted with these types of situations on a daily basis, the President and Founder of the Peridot Foundation Drs. Gracita Arrindell, Honorable Member of Parliament, has provided the department with four dates during the month of March on which she gave these lectures. All lectures were attended to capacity and many issues were brought forward and discussed. Topics such as: revised legislation, cooperation between stakeholders and information to employees, a sound process description through new legislation and policies by the Public Prosecutor's Office, an efficient Management and Information System, relational and domestic violence hidden within the organization, prevention internally and externally, training of employees, establishing a victim assistance agency and a social worker or psychiatrist available to the police were discussed.
These lectures were very informative for the workers of the Police Department and gave them a better insight on this topic and how to better deal with these type of situations.
At the end of the last lecture Drs. Gracita Arrindell was presented with a small token and certificate of appreciation. The workers of the police force expressed their gratitude.
