GREAT BAY (DCOMM):--- Member of the Settlement Committee Jean James was invited by the Council of Ministers (COM) to give an update on the activities of the committee. This was done on Thursday where COM was appraised about current as well as outstanding matters.
The Committee was established in accordance with Article 38 of the Charter of the Kingdom of the Netherlands via a mutual regulation of which Article 7 specifies the different aspects of the Settlement Committee.
The Committee consists of four members among which an independent chairperson Faroe Betry, and representatives of each country, supported administratively by Robert Cornax.
Jean James represents Sint Maarten. The members have been appointed for a three year period and their term will end on January 1, 2014.
The main goal of the commission is to streamline the process of the liquidation of all remaining assets and inventories, claims and liquid assets of the former Netherlands Antilles between the countries Curacao, Sint Maarten, and the Netherlands which represents the BES Islands (Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba).
The committee meets every two months.
