Pond Island:--- Organizers of Saturday's Fun Park event wish to thank the entire St. Maarten community, along with a stream of volunteers, for helping to make the TelEm Group event a runaway success.
Despite some anxious moments the night before, the weather held up and turned the Fun Park into a magical wonderland for thousands of visitors.
"We could not have done it without the help we received from our team of volunteers and the thousands of boys and girls who came along to see Mickey, Dora and just plain out take part in some fun activities," said one of the co-organizers, Angel Richardson.
Angel says one measure of the success of the event was the selling out of all food and drinks. Another was the decision to keep the show rolling for an extra two hours so that, especially the younger boys and girls, could take part in all the activities.
She said an unexpected large turnout meant long lines of visitors waited to be served with tickets or to take their turn on an activity, however extra time was allowed so that there would be few disappointments.
"The face-painting was very popular and the cartoon characters were the hit of the day," said Angel.
Talks have already started with TelEm Group management to have a repeat of the Family Fun Park event before the end of the year based on the positive response from visitors to the first Fun Park event.
"Parents were extremely pleased that there was something fun, different and safe that they could take part in with their children. The whole event had a magical Disney feel about it which visitors really appreciated," continued Angel on behalf of TelEm Group.
