PHILIPSBURG:--- On Wednesday, April 17, at 5:30pm, students of the University of St. Martin (USM) in collaboration with the Philipsburg Jubillee Library (PJL) will put on a special free Puppet Show for all ages.
Twelve students enrolled in the Teacher Education Program at USM will perform approximately 4 puppet shows. Their performances will fulfill a major requirement for their Children's Literature course, as they works towards obtaining their Bachelors Degree in Education.
This collaborative effort between USM students and the library was spearheaded by Maryland Powell, PJL's Junior Children's Librarian and the instructor of the Children's Literature course, Pattie Maier. The pair have collaborated on many events such as the Anansi Storytelling Festival and countless other puppet shows and festivals, that foster learning through storytelling.
"Puppet shows tantalize the imagination and bring written stories to life. They show that written stories can be acted out using voices and props", remarked education Instructor Maier.
Children attending the puppet show display can expect to see stories like "We're Going on a Bear Hunt", "Cleaning Mr. Crocodile's Teeth, "The Three Billy Goats' Gruff" and many more interactive, exciting stories.
Parents and children are invited to attend this educational, yet fun puppet show display at the library, put on by the students of USM.
