Philipsburg:--- The Rotary Club of Sint Maarten-Mid Isle hosted the Group Study Exchange (GSE) members from Texas at the club's dinner meeting last Tuesday.
GSE is a Rotary Foundation sponsored program, providing educational experiences for young business and professional men and women. The team from Texas will be visiting various organizations on St. Maarten/St. Martin, Anguilla and St. Barths in the field of Law, Police, Nursing and Marine Biology. They will also be visiting government officials and all the Rotary Clubs on the islands, including recreational activities.
The team's leader is Jennifer Bergman, an Attorney and a member of the Rotary Club of Cleveland, Texas. The other members are Nicole Yeats who is in the field of Nursing, Kristopher Benson is a Marine Resource Specialist, Lameka Trahan also an Attorney and Brandy Norris who is an Assistant Chief of Police. Their presentation to the Mid Isle Club included information on their personal and professional life's back in Texas, and some of their experiences on the other islands of Rotary District 7020 which they recently visited.
One of the attractive features of the Group Study Exchange program, which started in 1965, is the opportunity for team members to meet, talk and live with Rotarians and their families in a warm spirit of friendship and hospitality. In addition to learning about another country as the team visits farms, schools, industrial plants, professional offices and governmental establishments, the GSE teams serve as ambassadors of goodwill. They interpret their home nation to host Rotarians and others in the communities in which they visit. Many of the personal contacts blossom into lasting friendships. The Group Study Exchange program has provided Rotarians with one of its most enjoyable, practical and meaningful ways to promote world understanding.
