French Quarter:--- A national of St. Kitts known in the French Quarter community as David Mathew was shot around 7pm Saturday night in the vicinity of French Quarter Ball Field. The victim was transported to the Louis Constant Fleming Hospital in critical condition. According to residents of French Quarter, the victim is no stranger to the community. Some eyewitnesses said that the Gendarmes covered the ball field Saturday evening in search of the bullets that were fired at the victim. Close friends of the victim said the suspect fired three shots at David Mathew but he was hit once and not three times as being speculated. They said the victim walked from the location where he was shot and fell down by the Post Office in French Quarter where he was picked up by the ambulance personnel and taken to the Louis Constant Fleming Hospital.
They said David has a tattoo on his cheek with the words "Fuck The World". Some residents said the young man is known to be troublesome but felt that the shooting among the nationals of St. Kitts residing in French Quarter is becoming too frequent and too much for the community. Some residents who spoke to SMN News on the condition of anonymity said that the shootings started in April over a woman. "Two people were shot one night, one of the victims was a woman and had to be air evacuated for further treatment." The residents who were obviously angry said after that two men, one looking like a Rasta sprayed bullets on a vehicle parked in the Barry's yard while a young man identified as Christophe Mac Quillkin had to run for his life. Two weeks ago a Rasta looking Kittitian identified as Odelmo Williams was shot next to Suki's Supermarket. So far the Gendarmes have not arrested anyone for the shootings that took place recently in French Quarter. Several phone calls made to the Captain and Commandant of the Gendarmerie on Sunday for information regarding the most recent shooting went unanswered. SMN News also tried to contact the French Prosecutor Flavien Noailles but he too could not be reached by telephone.
According to residents and eyewitnesses, the suspect is also well known in French Quarter, he originates from the Dominican Republic and is known to be very quiet. He was identified as "Chino". "We all know Chino, this guy is really quiet and is always playing his music. Nobody understands what happened Saturday night but it's time for the Gendarmes to place some focus and solve crimes in the areas where locals live. Some weeks ago one of their informants was shot when two young men tried to steal his scooter and while he was not killed and the thieves did not manage to steal his scooter, one of the suspects got two years for attempting to steal a scooter while the main suspect that shot at the director of the service Renseignements Generaux Serge Salvado is still at large. Salvado was shot on May 29th, 2013 and already the accomplice is behind bars. We need to know when the Gendarmes will find the gang members or the perpetrators that are shooting each other in French Quarter."
