Investigation on Prison Break Underway --- “We are looking to see if the Prisoners got inside assistance” --- Stein.

prisonescapees23062013Philipsburg:--- Attorney General Taco Stein who is currently off island attending justice meetings told SMN News in an invited comment on Monday that an investigation into the escape of three prisoners is now underway. Stein said those conducting the investigation are looking to see if the three prisoners got inside assistance to escape while they were being held at the prison cells located at the back of the Philipsburg Police Station.

Prosecutor Dounia Benammar said the investigation was divided into two parts, the first part is conducted by the Landsrecherche. The second part is conducted by KPSM who is trying to hunt down the escaped prisoners. Benammar also confirmed that their French counterparts were notified about the prison escapees as well as all ports of entry and exits. Up to late Monday afternoon the three prisoners were not found, Benammar confirmed.

It should be noted that the Police Department has no authority over prisoners. All prisoners even those in pre-trial detention fall under the Management of the Prison whose director is Edward Rohan. Ever since Rohan took office last year there have been a number of negative events at the Prison facilities in Pointe Blanche, Simpson Bay, and Philipsburg but each time there are such events Edward Rohan can never be reached by phone or appointment to give accountability as to what is happening under his watch.

Attorney General Taco Stein said at this moment Rohan cannot speak or talk about the case because an investigation is currently taking place.
