PHILIPSBURG:--- At last Saturday's Change of Guard Ceremony, organized by the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten-Mid Isle, Mr. Ramesh Manek, Mr. Carl Housen, and Dr. Jay Haviser received Paul Harris Fellow recognitions. Rotarian Manek served as President of the Mid Isle Club in 2011-2012, and continued to support, advice and provide hands on Rotary work with the club's projects. Mr. Carl Housen has for many years supported the Mid Isle Club with their projects, especially the youth-oriented Sports and Spelling Bee projects by providing baked items and snacks for the participants and organizers. Dr. Jay Haviser was recognized for his tireless efforts in educating the youth who are members of his SIMARC Foundation about archaeology and history of Sint Maarten, and extending their knowledge further with various educational trips abroad. His contributions to our island in preserving its heritage is second to none. The Rotary Club is pleased to present these recognitions on behalf of the Trustees of the Rotary Foundation "in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations between peoples of the world."
The Paul Harris Fellowship is named for Paul Harris, who founded Rotary with three business associates in Chicago in 1905. The Fellowship was established in his honor in 1957 to express appreciation for a substantial contribution to the humanitarian and educational programs of The Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Club of Sint Maarten-Mid Isle designated the Paul Harris Fellows to Manek, Housen and Haviser whose lives demonstrate a shared purpose with the objectives and mission of the Rotary Foundation to build world understanding and peace.
