MAHO:--- On Friday July 26th at approximately 4:00am, several police patrols were directed to Maho reef in the vicinity of Tantra for a shooting incident. On the scene, the investigating officers learnt that shortly before shots were fired in the area and that a blue SUV with license plate M-10115 that was involved in the incident had already left the scene. While on the scene the patrols were informed by the Central Police Dispatch, that the SUV in question was driving at very high speed in the direction of Philipsburg. A Philipsburg patrol located the SUV at the Sint Maarten Medical Center. Two young men with initials L.J.G and R.T. were also at the medical center and stated that they were in the vehicle when the incident took place. They also stated that the driver of the vehicle with the initials A.T. was injured as a result of the shooting. The victim stated to the investigating officers the while leaving the area several shots were fired at his vehicle by an unknown person. One of the shots struck his left hand injuring him quite seriously. After being shot, he drove to the hospital for medical attention. The victim remains in hospital for observation. The blue SUV has been confiscated for further investigation by the Forensic and Detective Department. It is still very unclear as to what exactly happened and why.
