"We know what we need to do as individuals, as households and as a community"
PHILIPSBURG:--- The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams again called on the Community of St. Maarten to remain vigilant for the Hurricane Season and not to become complacent. During her weekly radio program One on One with the Prime Minister, the PM said that although the island has thus far been spared, there is still a long way to go for what has been called a very active 2013 Hurricane Season.
"Never let your guards down and St. Maarten needs to be prepared. It is a message that cannot be said too often and one that I will repeat during the course of the 2013 Hurricane Season. We know what we need to do as individuals, as households and as a community. As unfortunate as Hurricane Louis and those following Louis were they have been a learning lesson for us. Nevertheless it has made us stronger in terms of preparations in the public and private sector. We have seen some near misses and tremendous disasters in countries surrounding us. We have been spared and we should not be complacent. We have changed so many ways in how we build and in terms of cleanups. Government does clean districts but we have the responsibility as individuals to keep our surroundings clean. We need to make use of the possibilities that we have and the infrastructure that we have for cleaning up our districts. As our motto goes it really only takes one, and when that one comes it is important to be and to remain prepared," commented the Prime Minister.
