COLE BAY:--- On Saturday July 13th, 2013 at approximately 9:35pm, an armed robbery took place at an apartment building on the Water Front road in Cole Bay, whereby the victim by the name Nassar Abbas BASHITI (52) was seriously injured by two unknown robbers. The victim suffered very serious injuries to his head with a machete. After committing this horrendous act the suspects fled the scene on foot. The victim was transported immediately in serious condition to the Sint Marten Medical Center for medical treatment. The following day (July 14th) the victim was flown out to the Dominican Republic for treatment due to severity of his injuries. The victim was admitted to the hospital for two weeks and then sent back to Sint Maarten. On Friday August 10th, 2013, the Police Department learnt that the victim had died as the result of his injuries.
The Public Prosecutors Office and the Police Department are asking anyone in the community who may have any information that may shed some light on this investigation to come forward and give this information. The tip line number is 9300 or call the Detective Department at 54-22222 ext.215/222/224.
