COLOMBIA/ST. MAARTEN:--- The 13 year old son of well known businessman Derk "Dicky" Molanus was shot twice in Colombia on Tuesday evening around 6pm. Dicky Molanus told SMN News in a telephone interview that he received a phone call around 7pm Tuesday evening with the news. He said based on the information he received, his 13 year old son was playing with another young man on the street with a bike when he was shot. Molanus said his son was shot twice, once in his head and another shot somewhere on the body area. He said the other boy who was playing with his son was also shot multiple times but he was still alive up to Wednesday afternoon.
Molanus said that both boys were shot by others, he could not say if the shooters were teenagers or adults. He further stated that he does not know the motive of the killing because the mother of his son was not at the location when her son was killed. "I am hoping that the other boy survives so that he could shed some light as to what exactly happened and who shot my young son to death."
Molanus identified his son as Anthony Molanus-Galvez who was a student of Learning Unlimited. The bereaved father said that his son went to Colombia mid June when the school vacation started and he was due to return to St. Maarten sometime this week because he was in the seventh grade.
SMN News learnt that the mother of the young victim is from Colombia and she and her son went to her native country on vacation.
