St. Maarten Academy achieves yet another year of success at the CSEC Examinations.

CUL DE SAC:--- St. Maarten Academy has achieved yet another year of success at the May/June Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, securing another 100 percent pass rate.
All CSEC passes recorded by the school were secured at one sitting of the regional examinations. Fifty-five students wrote between seven and 12 subjects offered by the Caribbean Examination Council.
There were many outstanding performances. One student majoring in Science scored nine grade ones (the highest grade at the CSEC Examination) while another Science major achieved eight grade ones. Forty-four percent of the candidates achieved passes in nine or more subjects at grades one, two and three; while 89 percent passed at least seven subjects at grades one, two and three. Most colleges require five passes at grades one, two and three.
The school recorded 100 percent passes in Additional Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, English B, Geography, Human and Social Biology, Information Technology, Integrated Science, Physics, Social Studies, and Visual Arts.
Other subjects that showed strong passes were Principles of Business (97%); Principles of Accounts (95%); English A (94%); and Caribbean History and Mathematics, both with 91% passes.
According to Principal Shareed Hussain, most subjects showed an improvement from the previous year and he is extremely happy.
"We are very proud of our results, because it proves that at the Academy we are producing quality citizens to further build St. Maarten. We pride ourselves in developing students who are not only academically inclined, but who are well-rounded," Mr. Hussain said, making reference to the most recent interscholastic competitions the school won.
Current fifth form student Jenice Forbes and second former, Jacinth Hunkins recently beat out candidates at elementary and high schools across the island to win in both the senior and junior categories of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) essay competition. St. Maarten Academy has also been amassing accolades in sports, science, music, and poetry competitions.
"Aside from the multitude of awards that the St. Maarten Academy claims, I believe that the results of this year's CSEC examinations are also reflective of the virtues that we instill as part of our Student Care Department, because without that sense of community spirit and development of character, they [the candidates] would not have understood what it meant to strive for excellence, build themselves, build their community, and by extension, build their country. So I congratulate them all for a job well done," the principal said.
The Board of the Foundation for Academic and Vocational Education (FAVE), under which the St. Maarten Academy falls, also extends congratulations to the management, staff, and students of the St. Maarten Academy for achieving yet another year of excellent results. The board is happy that students continue to perform well since the inception of the school in 1986.
