PHILIPSBURG:--- Workers of Island Finance had the worst scare of their lives early Thursday morning when three men wearing masks and armed with a gun stormed into the financing agency to commit an armed robbery.
Police spokesman Ricardo Henson said in an invited comment that the incident took place around 8:45am. "Based on the information I have, three men stormed into Island Finance, they were all wearing masks and at least one of them had a firearm." Henson further stated that police arrested a possible suspect shortly after the crime was committed. When asked if the robbers got monies from the financing agency during the early morning robbery, the police spokesman said based on what he knew they got a very small amount of money during the daring robbery.

On Thursday August 29th, 2013 at approximately 8:40am, several police patrols and detectives were sent to Island Finance on the Walter Nisbet road (Pondfill road) to investigate an armed robbery that occurred shortly before. On the scene the investigating officers learnt that three armed men, dressed in dark clothing with their faces covered had stormed into the establishment. One of them attacked the security guard, striking him in face causing an injury and holding him hostage. The other two jumped behind the counter and demanded money from the employees while threatening them. The robbers took a very small amount of cash. After committing their act the robbers fled the scene. The paramedics were also called to the scene to treat the security guard and traumatized employees. A possible suspect in this case was arrested in the Philipsburg area shortly after. The Detectives from the Special Robbery Unit are investigating.
