GREAT BAY:--- Minister of Public Health Social Development & Labor, Cornelius De Weever, responsible for the production and distribution of drinking water, on Monday September 16, 2013 visited the tank site in Pointe Blanche to officially --take into service-- the first of two new tanks for storage of drinking water. The Minister has been monitoring the progress of the works since early this year.
"The supply of drinking water is principally a Government responsibility with distribution tasks outsourced to GEBE and production to Air-Fin; the continuous supply of safe and affordable drinking water to the St. Maarten Community is an essential condition for Public Health," said Minister De Weever.
GEBE was responsible for the site preparation, design and construction of the foundation, construction of retaining walls, installation of the water lines and for the total coordination of works. The concrete works for the construction of the foundation have been contracted out by GEBE to Liccom NV. Air-Fin/Seven Seas Water ordered and supplied the tank and was responsible for the erection works.
"It is important that we all continue to work together to better serve the people of St. Maarten and assist our brothers and sisters on the northern side when the need arises," said Minister De Weever.
